Walls go up, utilities are installed, equipment moves, issues are discovered, and completed work can quickly become hidden behind the next stage of construction. Because of that, good visual documentation is an important part of almost every construction project. Traditional photos are useful, but they only show what the photographer decided to point the camera at. A 360° photo captures the entire surrounding area from one position, giving project teams much more context when reviewing the site later. And when those 360° photos are organized into an interactive walkthrough, they can become more than documentation. They can also be used as a visual instruction system for workers, contractors, inspectors, clients, and other project stakeholders. ## Why Construction Sites Need Good Visual Documentation Photos are already commonly used throughout construction projects for many different purposes. They can help with: - **Site inspections and QA/QC** — document workmanship and identify areas that need correction. - **Progress tracking** — record how different areas change from one construction stage to another. - **Project reporting** — provide visual evidence for weekly or monthly progress reports. - **Safety inspections** — document hazards, access routes, temporary structures, or areas that require attention. - **Work instructions** — visually show workers where something needs to be installed, repaired, removed, or inspected. - **Remote site reviews** — allow project managers, architects, engineers, clients, or consultants to inspect an area without always travelling to the site. - **RFI and issue documentation** — provide visual context when discussing questions or problems associated with a specific location. - **Existing-condition records** — document the condition of a site before construction, renovation, or demolition begins. - **MEP documentation** — record electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and other systems before they are hidden behind drywall, ceilings, or finishes. - **Handover and as-built documentation** — provide a visual reference of the completed project for owners and facility managers. - **Claims and dispute records** — preserve visual evidence of what was present at a particular stage of the project. - **Training and site orientation** — help new workers understand layouts, access routes, restricted areas, equipment locations, and procedures before entering the site. Construction teams are already using 360° photography for workflows such as progress documentation, QA/QC walks, RFIs, risk mitigation, existing-condition capture, and recording MEP installations before they are covered. Virtual access can also reduce unnecessary site visits and help more team members review conditions remotely. ## Why Use 360 Photos Instead of Only Normal Photos? The biggest advantage is simple: **a normal photo records a direction. A 360° photo records the space.** Imagine standing in the middle of a mechanical room. With a normal camera, you may need to take separate photos of the front wall, rear wall, ceiling, floor, equipment, pipes, doors, and surrounding areas. Even then, it is easy to forget an important angle. With a 360 camera, one capture records everything around the camera position. Later, viewers can look left, right, up, down, or behind them. This can be especially valuable when someone reviewing the documentation notices something that the photographer did not consider important at the time of capture. Instead of discovering that the required angle was never photographed, there is a good chance that it is already visible somewhere in the 360° image. ### More Context Around Every Issue Context is particularly important on a construction site. A close-up photo might clearly show a defect, but someone looking at the photo later may not know exactly where that defect is located. A 360° view can show the issue together with the surrounding columns, doors, walls, equipment, rooms, and other recognizable features. That makes it much easier to understand **where something is and what surrounds it**. ### Build a Visual History of the Project If you capture the same locations regularly—for example, every week or at important construction milestones—you can gradually build a visual record of the entire project. This can be valuable months or even years later. For example, if someone needs to know where a pipe or electrical connection was located before a wall was closed, an older 360° capture may provide the answer. 360° documentation can therefore become a useful visual archive throughout the lifetime of a project, rather than simply a collection of photos stored in folders. ## Capturing High-Quality 360 Photos Is Much Easier Today 360 photography used to require specialized panoramic equipment or multiple photos that had to be carefully stitched together. Today, compact consumer 360 cameras make the process much simpler. Popular options include cameras such as: **Insta360 X6, Insta360 X5, DJI Osmo 360** These are small cameras that can easily be carried around a construction site and positioned on a monopod, selfie stick, tripod, or other suitable mount. Modern models can also capture very high-resolution imagery. For example, the Insta360 X6 supports 120MP photos, while the X5 supports 72MP photos. This means construction teams no longer need an expensive specialist photography setup simply to create useful panoramic site records. A practical workflow could be as simple as: **Walk to a location → position the camera → capture a 360 photo → move to the next location.** The result can then be organized into something much more useful than a folder full of JPG files. ## Turn 360 Photos Into an Interactive Construction Walkthrough Once you have captured your 360 photos, you can upload them to **PanoCool** and organize them into an interactive virtual walkthrough. Instead of opening individual images one by one, viewers can move through the construction site in a familiar experience similar to navigating Google Street View. For example: **Entrance → Lobby → Corridor → Room 101 → Mechanical Room** This makes it much easier for someone who was not present during the capture to understand the relationship between different locations. When the viewer opens that point, they could see: **Check pipe clearance before ceiling installation.** The person viewing the project can immediately understand both **what needs to be done and exactly where it needs to be done**. You can attach a photo gallery to a location and include close-up images of an installation, defect, drawing, reference image, or completed work. This combines the spatial context of 360 photography with the detail of traditional photography. ### Floor Maps For larger projects, a floor map makes navigation much easier. Users can see where each 360° capture was taken and jump directly to a particular room or section of the building. For multi-floor buildings, scenes can also be organized by floor. ### Quick-Access Menus A menu can provide direct access to important locations such as: - Level 1 - Level 2 - Mechanical Room - Electrical Room - Roof - Loading Area - Safety Issues - Inspection Points Instead of navigating through dozens of scenes, users can jump directly to the area they need. ## Leave Comments Directly Inside a 360 View Construction communication often involves a lot of back and forth: > Which wall are you referring to? > Is it the pipe next to the door? > Can you send another photo? > Where exactly is this problem? With the **SiteSync theme in PanoCool**, visitors can leave comments associated with a particular 360° view. This creates a more location-based way of communicating. A supervisor, engineer, client, or contractor can navigate to an area, look in the appropriate direction, and leave a comment there. Instead of discussing an issue separately from its visual context, the conversation can happen directly inside the virtual site. ## Example: A Visual Instruction Walkthrough Imagine that a supervisor walks through a project at the end of the day and captures 360° photos throughout the building. After uploading them to PanoCool, the supervisor creates a walkthrough and adds several instructions: **Room 102** Add an annotation showing an unfinished electrical outlet. **Corridor A** Place a point indicating where a fire extinguisher must be installed. **Mechanical Room** Add a popup containing equipment specifications. **Level 2 Staircase** Mark an area requiring a safety barrier. **Meeting Room** Attach a gallery containing reference photos showing the expected finish. The photos captured for progress documentation today may later help with: **Inspection → Reporting → Instructions → Remote review → Handover → Future maintenance** You do not necessarily need a separate capture for each task. By consistently documenting important locations, you gradually create a visual database of the project. And because each capture records the entire surrounding space, there is often much more information available than there would be in a collection of carefully framed normal photos. ## A Simple Workflow to Get Started You do not need to document every square meter of the construction site on your first attempt. Start with important areas and build a repeatable workflow: **1\. Capture** Take a 360° photo at important locations around the site. **2\. Upload** Upload the images into a PanoCool project. **3\. Connect** Connect nearby scenes to create a walkable experience. **4\. Organize** Add floor maps, levels, and menus so users can easily find locations. **5\. Add information** Place points, annotations, popups, galleries, and instructions where needed. **6\. Share** Send one link to contractors, project managers, inspectors, engineers, or clients. **7\. Repeat** Capture the same locations during future milestones to build a visual history of the project. ## Make Construction Instructions More Visual Construction projects are physical and spatial, but a large amount of construction communication still happens through text messages, reports, spreadsheets, and isolated photographs. 360° photography provides another approach. Instead of only telling someone **what** needs attention, you can show them **where it is, what surrounds it, and what it looked like at that moment**. Combined with an interactive walkthrough, maps, annotations, information points, galleries, and location-based comments, a simple 360° photo can become a practical tool for documentation, inspection, instruction, and collaboration throughout a construction project. The **Library** gives you one place to keep all of these reusable items and quickly add them to any scene. Previously called **Assets**, the Library has now expanded into a more complete reuse system inside the PanoCool editor. ## Where to Find the Library Open your project in the editor and click the **Library** tab on the left side. Inside, you’ll find four sections: - **Assets** — images and videos you upload - **Presets** — reusable styles for supported elements - **Content** — reusable popups and photo galleries - **Saved** — complete elements you’ve saved for later use Simply select an item from the Library to insert it into the center of your current scene. PanoCool also remembers the section you used most recently, so the next time you open the Library in the same browser, you can continue where you left off. ## Assets: Your Account-Wide Media Library The **Assets** section is available on all plans and works as your central media library. Any image or video uploaded here can be reused across your PanoCool projects, so you don’t need to upload the same logo, icon, floor plan, promotional image, or video again and again. You can upload files using the upload button or simply drag files directly into the Library panel. Supported media includes: - JPEG - PNG - GIF - MP4 Other common image formats, including WebP and HEIC/HEIF images from Apple devices, are automatically converted to JPEG during upload. You can search for assets by filename and quickly filter the library to show **All**, **Images**, or **Videos**. Clicking an asset immediately adds it to the current scene as an image or video hotspot. You can also right-click an asset, or open its three-dot menu, to rename or delete it. ## Presets: Reuse Your Favorite Element Styles Available on the **Cool** and **Super Cool** plans, Presets help you keep the design of your virtual tour consistent. For example, if you create a Callout with a particular font, shape, color, border, and layout, you can save that design as a preset instead of recreating it every time. Presets are currently available for: - **Callout** - **Circle Portal** When adding a preset from the Library, choose **Insert** to create the element using the saved style. You can also choose **Blank** if you want to add the same element with its standard default appearance. ### Set Your Default Style A preset marked with a star is the default style for that type of element. Once a default is selected, PanoCool automatically applies it when you add that element from the **Elements** tab. This is especially useful when you want every Callout or Circle Portal in a project to follow the same visual style. Presets can be either: **Global** — available across your projects or **Project** — intended for the current project If both exist, the project-specific default takes priority. You can switch the scope directly from the **Global / Project** badge in the Library. ## Content: Reuse Popups and Galleries The **Content** section, available on the **Super Cool** plan, lets you manage reusable popups and photo galleries inside a project. This is useful when the same information needs to appear in several places. For example, you might create: - A popup introducing a hotel room type - A restaurant menu - A property information panel - A photo gallery for a facility - A contact or booking popup Instead of creating multiple separate copies, you can create the content once and reuse it throughout the tour. Use the search field or filter between: - **All** - **Popups** - **Galleries** Each item includes a preview. Galleries also show their number of photos, while reusable popups can show how many places in the project currently use them. Click **Insert**, and PanoCool adds an icon element linked directly to that reusable content. The biggest advantage is that the content remains connected. If you update the original popup or gallery later, every element that uses it is updated too. This makes managing larger tours much easier and helps prevent outdated or inconsistent information. ## Saved: Reuse Complete Interactive Elements Sometimes you want to reuse more than just a style. You may have already created an element with exactly the appearance and behavior you need, including: - Display settings - Images or videos - Click actions - Hover actions - Translations - Links - Scene navigation With the **Saved** section, available on the **Cool** and **Super Cool** plans, you can save the complete element and insert it again later. Saved elements belong to the current project, so they are especially useful for repeated components within the same virtual tour. For example, you could save: - A customized navigation button - A branded information hotspot - A room information panel - A specific call-to-action button - A scene navigation element - A multilingual information element Recently used saved elements appear first, and you can search by name whenever your library becomes larger. Saved items can also be renamed or deleted directly from the Library. If a saved element contains a **Go to scene** action and that destination scene has since been deleted, PanoCool displays a warning icon so you can easily spot the broken reference. ## Saved Elements Are Independent Copies When you insert an item from the **Saved** section, PanoCool creates an independent copy. This means you are free to change the new element without affecting the original saved version. For example, you could save a standard information hotspot, insert it into several scenes, and then change the text or action of each individual copy as needed. This is different from reusable Content, where all usages remain connected to the same popup or gallery. A simple way to think about it is: **Saved elements = reusable templates** **Reusable Content = shared content that stays synchronized** ## How to Save an Element to the Library You can save an existing element directly from the panorama. Right-click the element and select **Save to library**, then give it a name. That element will now appear in the **Saved** section and can be reused elsewhere in the project. The same right-click menu also gives you faster access to your recently used saved elements. This means you can insert commonly used elements directly at the position of your cursor without opening the full Library. If you need something else, choose **Browse library** to open the complete Saved list. If an element contains an image or video that is still uploading, PanoCool will temporarily prevent you from saving it and show a **Still uploading** message. Once the upload has finished, you can save it normally. ## Build Tours Faster and Keep Them Consistent The Library is designed to reduce repetitive work. Instead of recreating the same assets, styles, popups, galleries, or interactive elements for every scene, you can build them once and reuse them whenever you need them. Use **Assets** for reusable media, **Presets** for consistent styling, **Content** for information that should stay synchronized, and **Saved** for complete elements you want to use as templates. You can remove unwanted objects, replace parts of a scene, fix damaged areas, change furniture, improve landscapes, or simply describe what you want changed with a text prompt. But if you work with **360° photos, also known as spherical or equirectangular photos**, things get more complicated. A 360° image is not just another large photo. It has a special projection, unusually high resolution, and every part of the image connects together to create a seamless sphere. So what is the best way to edit a 360 photo with AI without losing quality or breaking the 360° experience? ## The First Challenge: 360 Photos Are Huge Modern 360° cameras can produce images with much higher resolutions than ordinary photos. Some common examples are: - **8000 × 4000** — about 32 megapixels - **12000 × 6000** — about 72 megapixels - **16000 × 8000** — around 128 megapixels Drone panoramas and cameras such as the Insta360 X5, Insta360 X6, DJI Osmo 360, and other high-resolution 360° cameras can easily produce files in this range. That resolution is important. When someone views a normal photo, they only see the image from one direction. With a 360° photo, the viewer can look around in every direction and zoom into different areas. If the original 12K or 16K panorama is reduced to a much smaller image during AI processing, that loss of resolution becomes very noticeable inside a 360° viewer. ## Why General AI Image Editors Are Not Ideal for 360 Photos AI tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini, and other general-purpose image generators can be excellent for editing conventional images. However, they are primarily designed around normal rectangular images rather than very large equirectangular panoramas. When you upload a 12K or 16K 360° photo, the image may need to be resized or processed at a significantly lower resolution before the AI model edits it. The result might look great when viewed as a regular image on a screen, but once you put it back inside a 360° viewer and start zooming around, the difference in detail can become obvious. For professional virtual tours, real estate photography, resorts, construction documentation, or high-resolution drone panoramas, preserving the original image quality matters. There is another problem as well: **360° projection**. The top and bottom of an equirectangular image are heavily stretched. Something that looks distorted when viewing the flat image may look perfectly normal once projected onto a sphere. A general AI editor does not necessarily understand how the final photo will appear inside a 360° viewer. ## What About Photoshop? Traditional photo editors such as Photoshop are still very useful for 360° photography. You can use tools such as cloning, healing, selections, masks, and generative editing to remove unwanted objects or repair parts of an image. But editing the raw equirectangular image can be awkward. Areas near the top and bottom are stretched significantly, making it difficult to judge what the final result will look like when viewed normally. There is also one particularly sensitive part of every 360 photo: the seam. The left and right edges of an equirectangular photo connect together. If an edit changes one side without properly matching the other, you can end up with a visible line when viewing the image in 360°. For occasional edits, traditional photo editors can work well. For frequent 360° editing, however, it is much more convenient to work in an editor that actually understands the spherical image. ## A Better Workflow: Edit the Area You Need One of the most practical approaches is to avoid sending the entire 100+ megapixel panorama through an AI model. Instead, keep the original high-resolution 360 photo and use AI only on the area that needs editing. This gives you the best of both worlds: - The majority of the original panorama remains untouched. - The original resolution can be preserved. - AI only needs to process a relatively small selected region. - You can work while viewing the image in its correct 360° perspective. Other useful edits include: - Removing people from a scene - Removing tripods or selfie sticks - Cleaning unwanted objects from floors - Replacing TV or monitor screens \[with a reference image\] - Changing furniture or decorations - Fixing overexposure windows Because you're looking at the image as a sphere while making the selection, it is much easier to understand exactly which part of the scene you're changing. ## More Than Just AI Editing AI isn't always the right tool for every modification. Sometimes you simply want to add information to a 360° image. PanoCool Retouch also allows you to add elements directly over your panorama, including: text, icons, images, blur areas. This can be useful for inspection photos, construction documentation, educational content, real estate, tourism, and many other types of 360 photography. For example, you could add an arrow pointing toward an important feature, place a label above an object, or add your logo at the bottom of the panorama. ## Why Editing in 360 Mode Matters Imagine trying to remove a tripod from the bottom of a 16K panorama. In the flat equirectangular version, the floor around the tripod may appear extremely stretched. Inside a 360° viewer, however, you see it from the same perspective that your audience will see. If you only need to creatively transform an image and don't care about preserving its original 360 resolution, a general AI image editor can be perfectly fine. If you need advanced manual retouching, Photoshop and similar professional editors remain extremely powerful. But if your goal is to **preserve a high-resolution 360 panorama while using AI to fix specific parts of the scene**, a dedicated spherical editing workflow makes much more sense. Instead of shrinking a 12K or 16K panorama just so an AI model can process the whole image, keep the original panorama and apply AI only where it is actually needed. It is available for **Windows and macOS**. ## View 360° Photos Directly from Your Computer A 360° photo is usually stored as an equirectangular image. Opening that JPEG in a regular photo viewer shows the entire panorama stretched into a flat 2:1 image, which isn't particularly convenient when you want to inspect the scene naturally. But there's an extra challenge when your tripod is sitting on a **patterned floor**. Simply erasing the tripod isn't enough. The missing area needs to be reconstructed so that the lines, shapes, colors, and repeating pattern of the floor continue naturally. In this tutorial, I'll show you how I removed a tripod from an 360 photo using AI in PanoCool Retouch, while preserving the patterned floor underneath. ## Why Tripod Removal Can Be Difficult on Patterned Floors When capturing a 360° photo with a tripod, the camera sees almost everything around it — including what's directly underneath. That usually means the tripod appears at the bottom, or **nadir**, of the panorama. On a plain floor, removing it can be relatively straightforward. The tripod covers several parts of that pattern. When we remove it, the editor doesn't just need to make the tripod disappear. It also needs to figure out **what should have been behind it**. A poor edit could leave blurry areas, broken tile lines, mismatched shapes, or an obvious patch where the tripod used to be. That's where AI-based reconstruction can be particularly useful. ## Step 1: Open the 360 Photo in PanoCool Retouch Start by opening [PanoCool Retouch](https://pano.cool/pano-editor?utm%5Fsource=docs.pano.cool). You can drag and drop your 360 photo into the editor. Because PanoCool Retouch works directly with 360 photos, you can navigate around the panorama and edit the tripod from the normal interactive 360 view. The more complex the surface, the easier it is to notice an incorrect reconstruction. ## Step 5: Export the Finished 360 Photo Once you're happy with the result, click **Export**. Wait a few seconds for PanoCool Retouch to process the panorama, and your cleaned-up 360° photo is ready. You can then use the image in your virtual tour, upload it online, or continue with the rest of your 360 photography workflow. ## Why Use AI Instead of a Traditional Tripod Patch? A common way to hide a tripod is to cover the nadir with a logo or circular patch. That works well in many situations, particularly when you want to add branding. But sometimes you want the photo to look as though the tripod was never there at all. Traditionally, that can require manually cloning nearby pixels and carefully reconstructing the floor in an image editor. Spatial Capture takes a short 360 video of an indoor environment and processes it in the cloud to create an explorable **3D digital space**. Instead of standing at the original camera position like you would with a normal 360 photo, you can move forward, backward, and around the reconstructed environment. Think of the workflow as: **Record a 360 video → Upload it → Cloud processing → Explore the space in 3D** You don't need to manually create individual viewpoints or connect multiple 360 photos. ## Which Insta360 Cameras Support Spatial Capture? At the time of my test, the shooting instructions in the Insta360 app list support for: - **Insta360 X6** - **Insta360 X5** - **Insta360 X4 Air** It's also worth noting that Spatial Capture may not yet be available in every country or region. When you open Spatial Capture, the app provides specific shooting instructions. ## 1\. Set Your X6 to 8K/30fps According to the current Beta instructions, you should record using: **360 Video — 8K / 30fps** Both **i-Log and Dolby Vision should be turned off**. The recommended video length is approximately **2 minutes**. ## 2\. Use a Selfie Stick Insta360 recommends holding the camera on a selfie stick approximately **50 cm in front of your chest**. Try to keep the camera steady while you're walking. Good lighting is also important. Image source: Insta360 ## 3\. Walk Slower Than Normal Don't walk through the room at your usual speed. Insta360 recommends walking approximately **30% slower than normal**. Move back and forth through the space so the camera sees the same objects and surfaces from different positions. The recommended distance between each walking path is no more than approximately **2 meters**. You can think of it almost like mowing a lawn: walk one path, turn around, move slightly to the side, and walk back through the space. ## 4\. Capture Important Areas from Multiple Angles If you still have recording time available, don't immediately stop once you've covered the room. Walk around important objects or areas to capture them from additional angles. This gives the reconstruction system more visual information to work with. The current Beta instructions also recommend capturing spaces within approximately **100 m²**. # Generate Your 3D Space Once you've recorded your video, connect the X6 to the Insta360 mobile app. Open **Album** and look for **Spatial Capture**, then click **Create My Space** Then select the 360° video you just recorded. If your recording is longer than the supported duration, the app will ask you to select approximately two minutes of footage. Choose the section you want to use and tap **Done**. The app will prepare the footage and begin uploading it to Insta360's cloud. ![](https://docs.pano.cool/content/images/2026/09/image-6.png) # Spatial Capture Uses Cloud Processing One important thing to understand is that the 3D reconstruction isn't performed entirely on your phone. Your video is uploaded and processed in the cloud. Uploading the approximately two-minute video took around **two minutes**, although your upload time will obviously depend on your internet connection. After the upload finished, the app told me that cloud processing could take up to a few hours. Also this isn't an instant process where you record something and immediately walk through the 3D result. --- # Does Spatial Capture Cost Money? Another important detail is that rendering a Spatial Capture uses a rendering credit. Currently, Insta360 provided 4 free renders, allowing users to experiment with the feature before paying for additional processing. Since this is a Beta feature, We recommend checking the current information shown in your Insta360 app before creating a large number of spaces. The number of free renders and pricing could change. # Exploring the Finished 3D Space Once processing is complete, your generated space appears in the Insta360 app. This is where Spatial Capture becomes much more interesting than simply watching the original 360 video. You can look around the environment in 360 degrees, but you can also change your position. The mobile viewer provides two virtual joysticks for navigating through the reconstructed environment. You can also use touch gestures to look around and move through the scene. It feels more like navigating a small 3D environment than viewing a traditional panorama. # How Good Is the 3D Quality? My first impression was quite positive. Considering that the entire environment was generated from around two minutes of footage captured with a 360 camera, the result was impressive. However, it's definitely not perfect. When I moved closer to some objects, I noticed areas where the reconstruction became blurry or lacked detail. One particularly noticeable example was a ceiling light. The light itself wasn't reconstructed clearly. My guess is that the strong glare and overexposure around the light gave the reconstruction system very little usable visual information. I also encountered areas where I simply couldn't move any farther. It appeared that I had reached the boundary of the reconstructed space. This suggests that how you capture the original video matters a lot. If there's an area you know viewers will want to explore, make sure you physically walk through and around that area while recording instead of only capturing it from a distance. # Sharing an Insta360 Spatial Capture You can also share the finished Spatial Capture. Tap the **Share** button and Insta360 generates a link to the space. The nice part is that someone doesn't need your X6—or even the Insta360 mobile app, to explore it. I opened my shared Spatial Capture on a desktop computer in a web browser. Using a mouse, I could drag to look around the environment, while the keyboard controls allowed me to move through the space. That makes Spatial Capture potentially useful when you want to send an interactive representation of a location to another person rather than just sending them a video. # Can You Download the 3D Model? This is one limitation worth knowing about. At the time of my test, I couldn't find an option in the Insta360 app to download or export the underlying 3D model. You can explore the generated environment and share it through a web link, but there doesn't currently appear to be a way to simply export the 3D file for use in your own 3D software or workflow. For people interested in 3D scanning, Gaussian splatting, architecture, or custom virtual-tour applications, an export option would make Spatial Capture considerably more flexible. Hopefully that's something Insta360 considers as the feature develops beyond Beta. # Alternative: Generate a 3D Space from a Single 360 Photo There's another interesting approach if you don't have a two-minute video. **PanoCool Retouch** includes a **Generate 3D Model** feature that can create a 3D scene starting from a **single 360° photo**. The workflow is quite different from Insta360 Spatial Capture. Spatial Capture has the advantage of receiving many frames from different physical positions as you walk through a room. A single-photo AI-generated model only has one 360° viewpoint to work from. But that's also what makes the latter interesting: if you already have a collection of 360 photos, you can experiment with turning one of them into a 3D scene without going back to the location and recording another video. ![](https://docs.pano.cool/content/images/2026/09/image-7.png) ****PanoCool Retouch – Generate 3D Model feature** You can try it with [PanoCool Retouch](https://pano.cool/pano-editor?utm%5Fsource=docs.pano.cool). --- # Tips I Learned from My First Spatial Capture Based on my first test and Insta360's current Beta shooting instructions, I'd pay particular attention to these things on the next shoot: 1. **Use 8K/30fps** and make sure i-Log and Dolby Vision are disabled. 2. **Shoot in good, even lighting.** Avoid heavily blown-out lights and windows where possible. 3. **Walk slowly and steadily** rather than rushing through the space. 4. **Cover the room systematically**, keeping your paths relatively close together. 5. **Walk around important objects** instead of viewing them from only one direction. 6. **Capture areas you want people to explore.** If you don't adequately cover an area, your final movement range may be limited there. 7. **Keep recording until you've covered the space thoroughly**, rather than simply trying to finish as quickly as possible. For my next test, I'd especially focus on capturing the room more systematically and seeing whether that improves both reconstruction quality and the boundaries of the explorable space. --- # Is Insta360 Spatial Capture Worth Trying? For a Beta feature, **Spatial Capture is genuinely interesting**. The ability to walk around a room for roughly two minutes with an Insta360 X6 and later get an explorable 3D environment, without manually placing and connecting individual panoramas, is a very different workflow from traditional 360 virtual tours. There are still limitations. Processing takes time, rendering uses credits, some reconstructed areas can look blurry, movement is constrained by how well the environment was captured, and there's currently no obvious way to download the underlying 3D model. But that's exactly why I think the feature is worth experimenting with rather than judging it only from promotional examples. If you already own an Insta360 X6, it's worth using the available free renders to capture a few different types of spaces and see what works best. And as Spatial Capture moves beyond Beta, it'll be particularly interesting to see how Insta360 improves reconstruction quality, capture flexibility, and 3D export options. However, photographers who are comfortable controlling exposure can use Manual mode to adjust settings such as ISO, shutter speed, and white balance for a particular scene. This process involves changing DNS records. Once DNS records have been changed, they can take a while to propagate, which means global DNS providers recognise they have been changed. A custom domain added to PanoCool will appear as unverified until this process is complete and full propagation has been achieved. ## Domain is verified but can't access the website If you have recently changed DNS records, you're not able to see your website and the Vercel Dashboard shows that the domain is configured correctly then it's likely that you have a cached DNS record on your local device or network. You can test this by using a different device on a different internet connection (a smartphone using mobile data usually works best). This cache is cleared automatically after a certain period of time (usually anywhere from 1-24 hours), however it can be manually cleared by restarting your local computer or your local firewall/router. You can also clear this via your operating system's commands, however this varies for each device/operating system and would recommend researching how to do this for your specific device. ## Nameserver Changes If you have changed the nameservers with your current domain registrar then it usually takes up to 48 hours for these to be reflected globally. This is not something that PanoCool has any control over and for certain registrars, this can be slower. Once nameservers have been changed, you may wish to check the progress of the propagation.
